Cool Kids - The Bake Sale
Exciting times here at Sound Affects.
It’s 11:30 on a Tuesday night, and I have just found out that Chicago’s greatest retro-minded hip-hoppers, The Cool Kids, will be releasing their debut EP on May 20.
These guys have been kicking it old school for a little while now, but as yet have not released an actual record, merely ocassional singles via their MySpace.
Even so, the quality and style of these tracks is undeniable. So much so that 2 MCs and a DJ from Chicago, who have never released an album, recently toured Australia as part of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
Not only that, they were pretty highly billed in a lineup that included Feist, Broken Social Scene and Okkervil River, as well as Australia’s greatest festival whores, Gotye and The Presets.
Check out songs like I (Mikey) Rock, Gold and a Pager, 88 and Black Mags.
It’s like there’s a block party in your boombox, and your BMX is invited.
